Struggling readers can quickly slide down the path of illiteracy. Parents and teachers alike need to notice these students and intervene as quickly and decisively as possible to rescue them. Think of it as an emergency situation! Students who struggle with reading grow into adults who cannot read well enough to meet their full potential. These adults end up with employment problems, having difficulty with the demands of daily life, and possessing lower levels of life satisfaction.
Often, just a little bit of extra effort from teachers and parents as early as possible can help a student over an educational hump. A student who struggles with reading in elementary school does not HAVE to turn into a disabled reader as an adult. We CAN make a difference!
